OBD-II code · Electrical & Network
The CAN bus says the engine computer has gone silent. Causes: power/ground to the module, a CAN wiring fault, a crashed module — or, very commonly, a weak battery making modules brown out and talk nonsense.
PCM is dead — $1,200–$2,000 for a new computer plus programming. U-codes are where the most expensive wrong guesses in the industry happen.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $1,200–$2,000 (PCM swap) when a $180 battery or corroded pin was the fault
Battery/charging load test FIRST, then CAN-bus termination and waveform check, then module power and ground pin-drop testing under load. Newer cars log phantom U-codes with a battery at half health.
