OBD-II code · Emissions / Engine
The variable valve timing on the intake side is not where the computer commanded it. That can mean a tired VVT solenoid, low or dirty oil blocking the oil-pressure actuator, or a stretched timing chain. VVT runs on oil pressure — oil problems wear a timing costume.
VVT solenoid replacement, or worse: a timing-chain job ($1,500+) quoted off the code alone, before anyone checks whether the oil is the right weight and actually clean.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $1,500+ (chain job) when the real fix was an oil change and a $90 solenoid
Check oil level, condition and spec first. Command the VVT solenoid on live data and watch actual cam position respond; test solenoid resistance and flow; only then measure chain stretch with a tensioner-position reading or the engine apart.
