OBD-II code · Electrical & Network
A module has stopped talking on the CAN bus entirely. That can mean a dead module — but far more often it is power, ground, or a damaged bus wire, and everything sharing the fuse or ground point of that module goes quiet too.
Replace the module ($800–$2,000 with programming) without checking the corroded ground strap that feeds it. On flooded or older vehicles the dead module is usually just thirsty wiring.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $800–$2,000 (module + programming) when the fault was a $15 ground repair
CAN-bus termination and voltage checks (60-ohm total across the pair, 2.6V reference), fuse and ground verification, wiggle test on the harness. A dead module is diagnosed last, not first — because it is the most expensive way to be wrong.
