Dashboard light guide · Glass Box Diagnostics
Not an emergency — but a safety net may be switched off, or a fault is logged and growing. Book before it turns into a red light.
Nothing else about the car changes — it drives, it stops, it feels fine. That is the problem: the supplemental restraint system ran a self-test at startup and found a fault, and every airbag and pretensioner on that fault's circuit is now disabled. This is a safety light, not a convenience light, and it is diagnostician work, not parts-cannon work.
Read the RCM code, quote a $1,500 airbag module replacement — when the actual fault was a $35 buckle switch or a corroded $10 connector under the seat.
Typical guess-and-swap cost: $800–$2,000 (module or steering-wheel assembly) when wiring or a switch is the fault
SRS-capable scan (generic readers are locked out of this system — by design), resistance checks on the suspect circuit with the battery disconnected, wiring repair to factory spec. Never a clear-it-and-see-if-it-comes-back gamble.
